About Us
SCHOOL INFORMATION
Houston Elementary is located in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. A fixture in the community since the 1920s, Houston serves portions of the West Mt. Airy, East Mt. Airy, and Germantown communities. Houston mirrors the inclusive, diverse, and service-oriented community it serves with a focus upon creating strong and sustaining partnerships while welcoming and embracing all who enter its doors.
CAMPUS & FACILITIES
Houston Elementary School is a registered historical landmark. During the 2018-2019 school year, the facility was overhauled as part of a complete paint and plaster stabilization project. Light fixtures and flooring were also updated. Houston is known as the “place to be” for outdoor play. Members of the community come in droves to use the beautiful playground that is lovingly maintained by volunteers. In addition to the playground, there is a “Kinder Garden” for our youngest learners, and an outdoor classroom/learning area for all. Students and teachers take full advantage of Houston’s close proximity to the Cresheim Trail with scheduled walking trips and nature hikes. Houston has a functioning library that is completely organized and facilitated by a group of dedicated community volunteers. The charm of a historical building is met with updates such as Smartboards and laptop carts to modernize the learning experience for students.
