A Message from Our Principal, LeRoy Hall Jr.
Greeting Houston Family,
I hope you have had an enjoyable summer thus far! With great pride and excitement, I welcome you to the 2023-24 school year at Henry H. Houston Elementary School! It is an honor and pleasure to serve you and your children. There are many things to look forward to this year at Houston.
We continue to focus on rigorous instruction that meets needs and empowers all our students. In addition to robust learning opportunities in the core subjects (English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies), our programming will include S.T.E.M., Music, Art, and Physical Education/Health, classes. Last year’s “Shrek Jr.” musical, city art show participation, success in athletics, participation in the national Scripps’ Spelling Bee, monthly Harambee and P.B.I.S. celebrations, and our increasingly expanding S.T.E.M./robotics programs are just a few of the things that will help all of our learners reach their fullest potential as we look to teach the whole child.
We look forward to working alongside our families and community partners to meet each child’s academic, social, and emotional needs. Our core values of the Power of 3 will help guide us again this year. Power of 3 establishes three ideas:
That it is important to:
1. Take care of yourself
2. Take care of others
3. Take care of the school
Above all, our goal every year is for each Houston child to be provided with an education that enables them to reach their fullest potential and achieve their dreams!
Our first school day will be Tuesday, September 5th, 2023, for all learners. Supply lists for your child’s grade can be found on this site. As in years past, our school day starts at 8:15 am; however, breakfast is available in the cafeteria for students at 7:45 am. On the first day of school, please bring your child to the playground area, where we will begin the year by welcoming each other as a school community. Students will then enter the building with their homeroom teachers. Homeroom designation information will be posted in the playground area and communicated by several Houston staff members who will be available to help guide families and students to their homeroom lines.
Welcome to another year at Houston, a place where education opens the doors to dreams!
LeRoy Hall, Jr.
